The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has extended heartfelt appreciation to security stakeholders, community leaders, and residents of Anambra State for their unwavering support to the Police in maintaining peace and communal harmony throughout the recently concluded governorship election.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, CP Orutugu commended the collective efforts of sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), traditional rulers, youth organizations, and civil society groups, whose collaboration ensured the peaceful conduct of the polls across the State.

According to him, the atmosphere of calm and orderliness experienced before, during, and after the election was a testament to the shared commitment of all stakeholders to peaceful democratic participation. He noted that such synergy greatly enhanced operational coordination and contributed to the overall success of the Command’s election security plan, allowing voters to exercise their rights in a safe and secure environment.

While commending officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, dedication, and resilience, CP Orutugu reaffirmed the Police Command’s continued resolve to protect lives and property and to preserve public order across the State.

He also urged residents to build on the peace achieved during the elections by maintaining vigilance, supporting law enforcement agencies, and promptly reporting any suspicious persons or activities that could disrupt public harmony.

The Commissioner recalled that in the weeks leading up to the election, he embarked on a state-wide security advocacy tour, engaging traditional rulers, youth groups, religious leaders, and market associations to promote peace, voter confidence, and community cooperation toward a violence-free election.

He emphasized that the high level of compliance and civic responsibility displayed by residents underscored the strength of Anambra’s communal spirit and commitment to unity.

“The Command does not take this cooperation for granted,” CP Orutugu stated. “We must continue to uphold the values of tolerance, unity, and mutual respect that define us as a people.”
