…As CP Orutugu Warns Criminals That Anambra Is Unsafe for Crime
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six suspects and rescued a three-year-old boy earlier reported stolen in Anambra, following a coordinated operation that spanned three states; Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, launched a full-scale investigation on September 4, 2025, after receiving a petition from the victim’s family.
The complainant reported that her daughter had left her three-year-old son in the care of one Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno, while she briefly attended to her shop. Upon her return, both the child and the caretaker were missing.
Swift police action led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Samuel Ibe, whose confession aided in the apprehension of his mother, Agatha Ejeweh (35), and his younger brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera (15).
Further investigations expanded to Enugu State, where detectives arrested Angela Eze (30) for allegedly collaborating with another suspect, Juliet Onah, in facilitating the child’s transfer to Lagos. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives traced the network to Lagos State, where they arrested China Cosmas and successfully rescued the stolen child.
The boy has since been reunited with his family in good health, police confirmed.
SP Ikenga stated that all six suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
“This Command remains relentless in its fight against all forms of crime. Anambra State is unsafe for criminal elements, and anyone attempting to test our resolve will face the full weight of the law,”
CP Orutugu warned.
The police urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station for prompt response.
