As preparations heighten for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security, CP Abayomi Shogunle, PhD, fsi, has hosted heads of all security agencies in the state to harmonize operational strategies and ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free poll.
The high-level security meeting, held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, brought together Commanders of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the session was convened to strengthen inter-agency coordination and fine-tune existing operational frameworks ahead of the election.
CP Shogunle reaffirmed the collective commitment of all security agencies to deliver a secure and credible electoral process, stressing the importance of synergy, intelligence-sharing, and professional conduct by personnel before, during, and after the exercise.
“We are united in our resolve to ensure that the votes of Anambra people count. All agencies are working in harmony to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election period,” the CP said.
The Service Commanders, in their individual remarks, pledged full cooperation and expressed readiness to protect voters, election officials, materials, and critical national assets across the state.
CP Shogunle further disclosed that the security agencies have jointly identified flashpoints, developed deployment plans, and designed rapid response mechanisms to promptly tackle any attempt to disrupt public peace.
The security chiefs collectively appealed to the electorate to remain law-abiding, avoid acts of violence, and exercise their franchise without fear, assuring them of adequate security coverage. Political parties and candidates were equally urged to caution their supporters against incitement or misconduct capable of undermining the process.
The Anambra State security architecture, the statement added, remains resolute and united in ensuring that the will of the people prevails through the ballot box.
