The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the successful foiling of an attempted armed attack on Ezinifite Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025.
According to a press release signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, a joint security team comprising Police operatives and Agunechamba Vigilante operatives swiftly responded to the threat and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
“During the exchange of gunfire, one of the assailants was neutralized, while others fled into nearby bushes with suspected bullet wounds. A pump-action gun and the body of the neutralized suspect were recovered from the scene,” the statement read.
Ikenga further disclosed that offensive and intelligence-led follow-up operations are ongoing in collaboration with Police tactical teams to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, commended the vigilance and coordinated response of both the Police and community security operatives. He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across Anambra, especially ahead of the November 8, 2025 Governorship Election.
“The Command remains resolute in ensuring the safety of all residents and will continue to strengthen synergy with local security structures to prevent criminal elements from disrupting peace in any part of the state,” the CP assured.
