As part of ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has intensified his election peace-building advocacy across the State.
On October 25, 2025, the Police Commissioner paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Uzo Alexander Onyido (Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom), and later addressed officers and men of the Ogidi Area Command.
During his visit to the Palace, CP Orutugu emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace, promoting moral leadership, and discouraging youths from engaging in political thuggery. He described traditional rulers as strategic partners in maintaining communal harmony, especially during elections.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the CP urged the Palace and community leadership to mobilize residents for peaceful participation and promptly report any suspicious activities capable of threatening public safety before, during, and after the election.
In his remarks, Igwe Onyido commended the Police Commissioner for his proactive engagements and pledged the Palace’s support in promoting peace and civic responsibility. The monarch also cautioned youths and political actors in Ogidi to shun acts capable of undermining community peace.
After a closed-door meeting with Divisional Police Officers in the area, CP Orutugu addressed officers and men of the Ogidi Area Command, reiterating the Police Force’s commitment to professionalism and non-partisanship. He stressed that the duty of the Police is to secure the electoral space and protect citizens’ rights not to influence electoral outcomes.
The CP also met with local security stakeholders, including the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka, vigilante operatives, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Presidents General, and other community leaders. The stakeholders commended the Command for its continued engagements and pledged their support toward a peaceful and credible election.
CP Orutugu assured Ndi Anambra that adequate deployments, surveillance operations, and rapid response units have been activated across all Local Government Areas to maintain law and order. He urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and reject any calls to violence, emphasizing that Anambra’s peace and stability remain a shared responsibility.
