…Party Lowers Flags, Holds Prayer Session in Honour of Departed Leader
The Imo State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally commenced a period of mourning following the sudden passing of its Deputy Publicity Secretary, Hon. (Chief) Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu, who died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
In a solemn ceremony held at the party’s state secretariat in New Owerri on Friday, October 3, party leaders, members, and associates gathered to honour the late chieftain. The ceremony included a special prayer session and a minute of silence, while party flags were lowered to half mast in a symbolic expression of loss and respect.
Speaking during the event, the State Publicity Secretary, Chief MacDonald Amadi, KSM, JP, described Chief Asuzu as “a disciplined party man, a loyal voice of reason, and a dedicated communicator who consistently prioritized service to the party and the people.”
“Chief Asuzu was not just a political figure,” Amadi said, “he was a thinker, a theologian, a social scientist, an entrepreneur, and a passionate community leader. His contributions to the growth and visibility of the ADC in Imo State were profound and deeply valued.”
According to Amadi, Asuzu’s legacy is one of unwavering commitment to issue-based politics, grassroots mobilization, and people-first governance. He added that the late Deputy Publicity Secretary’s intellect, humility, and principled leadership will be sorely missed by the ADC family and the broader political community in the state.
Other members of the State Working Committee and local government chairmen in attendance also offered tributes, noting the personal and professional impact Chief Asuzu made within the party and across his community in Ideato South Local Government Area.
On behalf of the party, Chief Amadi extended heartfelt condolences to Asuzu’s family, friends, and constituents, praying for divine strength and comfort during this difficult time.
“The passing of Hon. (Chief) Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu has left a painful void in our hearts and in the structure of our party,” Amadi stated. “As we mourn his loss, we also recommit ourselves to upholding the ideals he lived for ideals rooted in justice, service, and the empowerment of ordinary people.”
The ADC calls on all party members, supporters, and the general public to join in celebrating the life and legacy of a man whose dedication to public service and political integrity will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
