The Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE), Ogun State Chapter, has condemned the recent violence that erupted at Ilugun High School, Saje, Abeokuta, which claimed the life of a student.
In a statement signed by the State Coordinator, Comrade ‘Yinka Folarin, PAVE expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength during what it described as a painful and avoidable loss.
The organization commended the Ogun State Government for its swift intervention, which led to the suspension of the principals of both the Junior and Senior Schools pending further investigation.
It was gathered that the crisis began after students staged a protest over alleged unlawful and unauthorized demands for fees. The protest reportedly escalated due to poor handling by the school’s management, leading to the tragic incident.
A team from PAVE Ogun visited the school on September 30, 2025, where security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were seen maintaining order.
“The circumstances that led to the loss of a student’s life were entirely avoidable,” PAVE stated, while calling on education stakeholders to respect established rules, uphold the rights of students and staff, and adopt proactive measures to prevent violence in schools.
The organization also admonished students to embrace discipline, follow proper grievance channels, and avoid destruction of public property.
PAVE Ogun pledged to continue monitoring developments at Ilugun High School until full normalcy is restored.
