The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilante operatives, has arrested four suspected cultists following a violent confrontation in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at about 7:00 a.m., when armed cultists were spotted attacking each other with cutlasses, daggers, broken bottles, and other dangerous weapons behind Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
A swift response by a joint Police/Vigilante team led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Oyachonam Friday (26), Akachukwu Ekwenze (23), David Chukwuma (25), and Eziolise Aloysius (23). Others fled into nearby bushes.
One of the suspects, David Chukwuma, sustained machete cuts during the clash. He was given medical attention and is said to be responding to treatment. Police confirmed that all four arrested individuals confessed to being members of the “AYES” confraternity.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of Anambra that the Command remains committed to eradicating cultism and other violent crimes in the state.
