Afriland Properties Plc has confirmed a fire outbreak at its headquarters, Afriland Towers, located on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the company on Wednesday, emergency services including the Federal Fire Service and the Lagos State Fire Service responded swiftly to the incident, helping to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire started in the building’s inverter room before smoke spread rapidly through several sections, including emergency exits, even as safety protocols were activated during evacuation.
Afriland Properties expressed sadness over the incident and extended sympathies to all those affected. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to their families and loved ones,” the statement read.
The company also commended emergency responders, first aid workers, and members of the public for their efforts in managing the situation.
Afriland Properties noted that an investigation into the cause of the fire has already commenced and assured that timely updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available.
