The Police Service Commission (PSC) has pledged to work closely with state governments to ensure the 2025 police recruitment exercise is transparent, merit-based, and free from corruption.
At a stakeholders’ consultative meeting held Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Parry Osayande Auditorium, Abuja, the Commission engaged representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to fine-tune preparations for the recruitment of Cadet ASPs and Constables. The meeting, themed “Collaborative Approach for a Transparent and Equitable Police Recruitment Process”, sought to foster cooperation and prevent the hijacking of recruitment slots.
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd.), mni, urged state governments to protect their quotas and resist attempts to trade or purchase recruitment slots. He stressed that merit and equity must not be compromised, adding that the Commission is determined to eliminate corrupt practices and encourage healthy competition.
“We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread,” Argungu stated, calling for constructive partnerships with state governments to safeguard the process.
Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd.), Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary, reaffirmed the Commission’s mandate to ensure fairness in police recruitment. He emphasized that no individual or group would be allowed to hijack the exercise, urging state representatives to verify that recruited candidates are genuine indigenes of their states.
Similarly, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd.), fdc, LLM, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police in the Commission, expressed the management’s commitment to producing the best Nigerian youths for the Police Force. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the recruitment, describing it as a rare opportunity that must not be squandered.
PSC Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, announced plans to establish state offices to enhance the Commission’s capacity to deliver on its constitutional mandate, appealing for state government support.
The meeting ended with a resolution to hold regular consultative engagements, as state representatives pledged full cooperation with the PSC to ensure a transparent and credible recruitment process.
