The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced new measures to decentralise police recruitment, giving state recruitment desk officers a more prominent role in the 2025 exercise.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the move follows a consultative meeting in Abuja with representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It was the first time the Commission engaged directly with state recruitment officers, who are regarded as the primary beneficiaries of the exercise.
The PSC revealed that it has acquired a new recruitment portal designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in the recruitment process. The portal will be accessible to all key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Character Commission.
The Commission explained that the platform will not only help prevent corruption and nepotism but will also be used for recruiting both PSC staff and different categories of police officers.
Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, noted that the collaboration with state desk officers will safeguard the interests of all parties involved. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering a credible and professional police force that Nigerians can be proud of.
The PSC added that the new portal will be activated once preparations for the 2025 recruitment exercise are concluded.
