The Nigeria Police Force has announced major breakthroughs in separate cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, resulting in the rescue of victims, the arrest of suspects, and the recovery of firearms.
In an official statement, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the operations underscore the Police’s renewed determination to dismantle criminal networks across the country.
According to the statement, on July 30, 2025, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command intercepted a suspected human trafficker, 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna, along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway. Two young female victims, identified as 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley, were rescued.
Preliminary investigations revealed the victims had been lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the guise of job opportunities in Ghana. The suspect, who posed as a casual labourer, planned to transport them to a restaurant allegedly owned by his partner in Ghana. He had lodged the victims in a hotel pending departure and allegedly attempted to sexually assault them. The victims have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are underway to track other members of the trafficking syndicate.
In a related operation, operatives of the Taraba State Police Command, working with local security outfits, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol Local Government Area on August 13, 2025, arresting two suspected kidnappers, 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar. The suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and confessed to being members of a syndicate linked to several kidnappings in Plateau and Taraba States.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the operatives for their swift action, directing thorough investigations that will lead to the prosecution of all suspects. He assured the public of the Force’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property nationwide.
The Police further called for community vigilance and cooperation, stressing the importance of intelligence-led operations and quick intervention in the fight against crime.
