A joint delegation from the Plateau State Government and the State House of Assembly on Sunday, August 10, 2025, visited Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area to commiserate with communities hit by recent bandit attacks and to reaffirm government’s resolve to restore peace and security in the region.
The high-powered team, led by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Brig-Gen. Gakji Shipi (rtd), inspected the Mushere Bridge — a strategic link connecting several communities — and directed the contractor to resume work on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who ordered the inspection, has mandated the speedy completion of the bridge to enhance security agencies’ access to the area. The project, originally initiated by former Governor and Senator Joshua Chibi Dariye as a constituency intervention, had been abandoned after his exit from the Senate.
During the visit, Speaker Gapyil expressed sympathy for the affected communities and stressed the urgency of completing the bridge.
“We are here out of the Governor’s concern to ensure that these communities are linked to the rest of the state. This project demands urgent attention as it will provide faster access for security agencies to respond to distress calls,” he said, urging residents to support the government’s efforts.
He also tasked security agencies to remain vigilant in protecting lives and property, assuring that the House would sustain oversight and collaborate with communities for enhanced safety.
The Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Hon. Amalau Samuel, disclosed that materials for the bridge’s completion are already on site and confirmed that the contractor will mobilize on Monday.
National President of the Mushere Chiefdom Development Association, Mr. Michael Terfok Yilkes, lauded the Governor’s intervention, saying the bridge would connect Margif with Komur, Mbor, and other communities, boosting mobility and economic activities. He urged the Federal Government to act decisively against bandits allegedly invading from neighboring Nasarawa State.
