The Nigerian Army has announced a string of operational victories across the country, including the neutralisation of a notorious terrorist commander, rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of weapons, and suppression of armed violence.
In Borno State, troops of 3 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Rann Kala, Balge Local Government Area, repelled an attack by ISWAP/JAS fighters on August 7, 2025. The clash resulted in the death of three terrorists, including a top commander identified as Amirul Fiya (also known as Abu Nazir). Blood trails at the scene suggested other insurgents escaped with injuries.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, an unexploded ordnance, and two rocket-propelled grenades. A follow-up operation on August 9, conducted jointly with the Civilian Joint Task Force/Hybrid Force, led to the discovery of another terrorist corpse, as well as the recovery of a QJC 88-barrel gun, an anti-aircraft gun tripod, 20 rounds of 12.7 x 108mm ammunition, a backpack, and a bicycle.
In Zamfara State, on August 8, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 responded to credible intelligence about terrorist activities along the Gusau–Kaura Namoda road in Unguwar Sariki Musulmi, Kaura Namoda LGA. The swift operation forced the terrorists to abandon their plans, enabling the rescue of two kidnapped victims who have since been reunited with their families.
Elsewhere, in Ebonyi State, troops of the 24 Special Engineer Regiment intervened in a communal conflict between Iyimagwu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo LGA on August 9. Coming under fire from an abandoned building, the troops returned fire, killing one armed criminal. The operation yielded a G3 rifle, 50 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four hand grenades.
According to Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Apollonia Anele, the operations highlight the Army’s resolve to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty, safeguard citizens, and dismantle criminal networks.
She added that the Nigerian Army will continue to sustain aggressive operations in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure lasting peace and stability nationwide.
