The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Malam Ibrahim Gusau, has lauded the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his remarkable strides in the development of sports infrastructure, particularly the ongoing renovation of the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.
Gusau, who visited the stadium on Friday, July 18, 2025, for an on-the-spot assessment, described the quality and scale of work as “far beyond expectations,” praising the Governor’s leadership and commitment to restoring Plateau State’s prominence in Nigerian football.
“What I have seen here is not just impressive, it is a bold step towards reclaiming Plateau’s historic place in Nigerian football,” Gusau said during the inspection. “I’m truly overwhelmed. I didn’t expect the work to be this massive. The quality is exceptional, and I commend Governor Mutfwang wholeheartedly.”
The NFF President assured the Governor of the Federation’s full backing and pledged to support the return of national and international football matches to Jos upon the stadium’s completion.
“There’s absolutely no reason why the national team won’t play here once this stadium is ready. That’s a promise. And as long as the Governor keeps his word—and I have no doubt he will—we at the NFF will fulfill ours,” he added.
Gusau also hinted at a possible collaboration between the NFF and the Plateau State Government to revive the Zaria Road Stadium, with a view to hosting elite fixtures, including matches involving the Super Eagles.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed that the redevelopment of the Rwang Pam Stadium is a strategic move to reposition Plateau as a leading football hub in the country.
“We embarked on this project to elevate the status of football in Plateau State. Our aspiration is to host top-tier competitions, including CAF matches, right here at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium,” the Governor stated.
He expressed optimism that the stadium will be completed by November 2025 and described the NFF President’s visit as a clear indication of a new era of collaboration between the state and national football authorities.
“The projected completion by November, coupled with the visit by the NFF President, signals a new era of synergy between the state and national football authorities, anchored on infrastructure, vision, and commitment,” he concluded.
