Navy Commissions Health Projects In Orile Agege, Boosts Maternal, Child Care

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned and handed over newly constructed and renovated health facilities at the Primary Health Care Centre, Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, under its Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.

The project, facilitated by Rear Admiral Saheed Adeshina Akinwande, includes the construction of fully furnished duty staff cabins, renovation of the maternity ward, installation of a 6.5Kva solar-powered inverter system for uninterrupted power supply, and the upgrade of the immunisation, family planning, outpatient, and TB wards. The maternity ward also received new beddings and an additional delivery bed to improve maternal and child healthcare.

Speaking at the event, Rear Admiral Akinwande described the intervention as a stop-gap measure to address the challenges of accessing quality healthcare, especially maternal care, in Orile Agege and its neighbouring communities. He noted that the project symbolises renewed hope for families, adding that the wellbeing of expectant mothers and children is central to the survival of the nation.

“This upgrade creates a conducive environment for both mother and child, while the staff cabins will enhance the welfare of medical personnel in service delivery. I am optimistic that these projects have brought renewed hope to the people of Orile Agege,” Akinwande said. He urged the community to take full ownership of the facilities to ensure sustainability.

Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Doctrine Command, Rear Admiral Shehu Usman Gombe, explained that the Special Quick Impact Project was launched in 2024 to strengthen civil-military cooperation and support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The commissioning today exemplifies the Navy’s role as a force for good, not only in securing our waters but also in improving the lives of Nigerians. Rear Admiral Akinwande’s commitment to his community demonstrates the courage of kindness and service,” he said, while congratulating the people of Orile Agege.

Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu, Executive Chairman of Orile Agege LCDA, in his goodwill message, commended the Nigerian Navy and other stakeholders for their contributions to grassroots development. He noted that the project was more than just infrastructure but a symbol of resilience and community well-being.

“This intervention aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our local vision to rehabilitate critical infrastructure across Orile Agege. On behalf of the people, I extend appreciation to Mr. President and reaffirm our administration’s commitment to improving healthcare and other key sectors,” Idowu stated.

The event drew community leaders, healthcare workers, and residents, who expressed joy at the improved facilities, expected to strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery in the area.
