The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening security within the marine and blue economy sector, pledging deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council to boost economic growth and enforcement operations across port corridors.
The IGP made this known on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, MON, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The meeting, held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, also had in attendance members of the Force Management Team and other senior police officers.
During the meeting, Dr. Akutah expressed gratitude to the police leadership for the longstanding synergy between the two institutions, particularly in the enforcement of regulatory functions and the implementation of the Nigerian Port Process Manual. He noted that the collaboration had significantly improved transparency and operational efficiency, especially along strategic port access routes.
Highlighting the need for stronger support, Dr. Akutah called for continued partnership with the Police in enforcing compliance, intensifying surveillance, and supporting NSC monitoring teams nationwide.
In his remarks, the IGP commended the Council for its pivotal role in facilitating trade and advancing national economic development. He assured the visiting delegation of the unwavering support of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring security within port environments and enhancing joint task operations aimed at fostering order and compliance.
“The Nigeria Police remains committed to sustaining collaboration with critical agencies like the Nigerian Shippers’ Council to secure our maritime domain and drive national prosperity,” Egbetokun stated.
He emphasized that the Police will work more closely with the Council’s task teams to realize mutual goals and consolidate gains recorded in the maritime sector.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police is committed to building productive partnerships with public and private stakeholders to reinforce national security, institutional efficiency, and socio-economic advancement.
