As the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria prepares to mark its 70th anniversary, the General Overseer, Rev. Dr. Sam Aboyeji, has reiterated the church’s commitment to spiritual renewal, national unity, and community service, while also raising concerns over the growing insecurity in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lagos on Monday, Rev. Aboyeji noted that the platinum jubilee celebration, themed *“Renewed for His Glory,”* will not only reconnect past and present members of the church — both locally and in the diaspora — but also serve as a platform to honour those who have made outstanding contributions to the mission of the church.
He emphasized that the anniversary celebration is geared towards fostering unity, spiritual reflection, and a renewed commitment to the church’s core values of service, holiness, and national development.
Rev. Samson Mawode, the National Secretary of the church, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of insecurity in Nigeria, describing it as a major threat to gospel propagation. According to him, Christians and church institutions have increasingly become targets of violence and attacks.
“Insecurity remains one of the greatest challenges facing the Church. Many worshippers have faced threats, attacks, and even killings in the course of their faith,” Rev. Mawode lamented. He called on the government to intensify its security efforts and deploy robust measures to protect religious institutions and communities.
The Foursquare Church, which strongly upholds the doctrine of civil government as one of its 22 tenets of faith, reaffirmed its responsibility to continually pray for Nigeria and support national development through its spiritual and social initiatives.
A series of activities have been scheduled to commemorate the church’s 70th anniversary celebration, set to hold from **July 21 to July 27, 2025**. The programmes include:

The church leadership expressed optimism that the celebration would rekindle the spirit of fellowship among its members, promote spiritual growth, and project the church’s mission in line with its global vision.
