The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Thursday led a high-powered investigative team to Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area, following the recent cult-related attack that claimed two lives, left two others hospitalized, and resulted in the abduction of two individuals.
During the visit, CP Orutugu, accompanied by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Tactical Teams, and the Operations Department of the Command, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene.
The attack, which occurred on the evening of June 19, 2025, involved gunmen who opened fire at Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko, reportedly injuring four people. Two victims are currently receiving treatment, including a young lady.
CP Orutugu also paid a visit to the hospital where the survivors are receiving treatment. He interacted with the hospital management and pledged support for the medical care of the victims.
In a strategic move to deepen security cooperation, the Police Commissioner met with the Chairman of Orumba North Local Government, Hon. Casmir Nwafor, and key community stakeholders, including representatives of the Oko Polytechnic Students’ Union. He called for stronger collaboration between residents, students, and law enforcement agencies in order to fish out the criminals.
The stakeholders pledged to:
* Share relevant intelligence with the police to aid the investigation.
* Support ongoing efforts to gather evidence and reconstruct the events of the attack.
* Collaborate on new security measures to prevent a recurrence.
In response, CP Orutugu assured the community of a comprehensive and victim-centered approach to the ongoing investigation, combining intelligence-led operations with a commitment to survivor support.
While patrolling the affected areas, he directed immediate reinforcement of security presence, especially in high-density locations such as student hostels and school environments, to deter further threats and ensure public safety.
The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its dedication to safeguarding lives and property while exploring proactive strategies to forestall future attacks.
