A 38-year-old woman battling advanced breast cancer, Mrs. Julianna Akamagwuna, has issued a passionate appeal to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ned Nwoko, corporate bodies, and kind-hearted Nigerians to help raise over ₦8 million needed for her urgent medical treatment.
Mrs. Akamagwuna, a native of Ubulu-Unor in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, has been battling cancer since 2020. She is currently bedridden and in excruciating pain, with the disease now reportedly spreading to her spinal cord and lungs.
In a faint, tearful voice over the weekend, she told our correspondent from her hospital bed: “I want to live. I still believe I have decades ahead of me if only help can come. The breast cancer is eating me raw. Treatment will cost over N8 million, and we cannot afford it anymore. We’ve sold everything — even our land — but the treatment failed. I believe God wants me to live, but I need Nigerians to help me survive.”
Her husband, Mr. Augustine Akamagwuna, recounted how the family exhausted all resources, including the sale of property, during her initial treatments.
“She was diagnosed in 2020 at the National Hospital, Abuja,” he said. “She underwent 13 rounds of chemotherapy and 10 radiotherapy sessions in 2021. Unfortunately, her condition worsened. She was admitted for 21 days and underwent several platelet transfusions costing over ₦1.1 million.”
The family was later informed that surgery was no longer viable due to the cancer’s spread. Despite a brief improvement, a relapse in February 2025 has brought more pain and fear as the disease progressed aggressively.
“She now needs a new round of chemotherapy and radiotherapy costing at least ₦4.5 million,” Mr. Akamagwuna continued. “This doesn’t include the cost of drugs and other expenses. I lost my job in 2023. Since then, we’ve been surviving by the grace of God.”
While supporting documents including histology and cardiovascular reports have been provided, he noted that the most recent diagnostic result, which shows the spread to the lungs and spine, is only available on CD and not yet printable by the hospital.
In her words, Mrs. Akamagwuna pleaded: “I don’t want to die. Please help me. Help my husband. Help my children. I want to live again and contribute to society.”
The family is appealing for urgent help from the Presidency, Delta State Government, Anioma people, Ubulu-Uku indigenes, corporate organisations, religious bodies, and compassionate individuals to donate towards the life-saving treatment.
