Anambra Police Warn Against Sharing False Security Reports, Vow To Prosecute Offenders

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups circulating false or exaggerated security-related content aimed at causing public panic and undermining the credibility of security agencies in the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on July 23, 2025, the Command expressed deep concern over the growing trend of deliberate misinformation being spread via social media and other platforms.

According to the statement, such actions are not only malicious but also jeopardize ongoing security operations and erode public trust in law enforcement agencies. The Command emphasized that it will no longer condone these disruptive practices and is set to take decisive steps to investigate and expose those behind the spread of false security alerts.

The Command further disclosed that individuals found culpable will face legal consequences in line with the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and other relevant laws.

“As part of ongoing security assessments, we will ensure that those who peddle inciting and misleading information with the intent to discredit the Police and other security agencies are brought to justice,” the statement read.

The Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant, refrain from sharing unverified reports, and support the efforts of law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities through official communication channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and the safety of all residents, the Command assured citizens of its resolve to continue providing effective and responsive policing across Anambra State.
