Anambra Police Take Over Scene of Cult-Related Shooting In Oko, Two Confirmed Dead, Two Abducted

Security operatives in Anambra State have taken control of the scene of a suspected cult-related shooting incident that occurred on the night of Wednesday, June 19, 2025, at Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area.

The attack, which happened around 8:40 p.m., left two people dead, two others reportedly abducted, and two victims, including a lady, currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, officers led by the Area Commander of Aguata, in collaboration with a Joint Security Force comprising personnel from the Army, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante operatives, have secured the area and commenced an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators.

An eyewitness account indicated that the assailants arrived at the Total Junction on motorcycles and in a black Lexus 350 SUV with no license plates. The attackers reportedly began shooting indiscriminately, wounding four individuals. The attackers later proceeded to Tipper Junction, where two persons were allegedly abducted before they fled the scene.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, June 20, said that security operatives are working on credible leads and have begun gathering intelligence from eyewitnesses to track down the armed criminals.

“The Command has sued for calm as the Operatives are already acting on some clues from the scene and leveraging on necessary information from some eyewitnesses for the possible arrest of the hoodlums,” the statement read.

The police promised to provide further updates as investigations continue.
