The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that accuses its officers of flouting arrest protocols, describing it as the work of “mischief makers” attempting to evade justice.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, that the video was deliberately recorded and shared with bloggers to tarnish the image of the Command.
According to the statement, State Intelligence Operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a compound in Ifite, Awka, where suspected internet fraudsters and cult members were reportedly operating. The suspects allegedly resisted arrest, locked themselves inside, and demanded identification from the officers, which was duly provided.
Ikenga explained that the suspects were served arraignment notices and later granted bail in compliance with the legal requirement not to hold individuals beyond 48 hours without arraignment. The Command has pledged to investigate claims that certain amounts were paid for bail, urging anyone with credible evidence to come forward.
The suspects scheduled for arraignment include: Chiemerie Chukwuma, Makuochukwu Ikegwuonu, Okeke Uzochukwu, Uchendu Precious Ikenna, Uchenna Mmaduachi Emmanuel, Arinze Duruma, Ugochukwu Isreal, and Emmanuel Chimuanya.
The Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and due process, warning that individuals who attempt to mislead the public or obstruct law enforcement will face legal consequences.
