The Anambra State Police Command has announced the recovery of another AK-47 rifle with a fully loaded magazine following a coordinated security operation by the Police-led Joint Task Force (JTF) at Aguata.
The rifle, believed to have been abandoned by fleeing gunmen, was recovered late on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, hours after heavily armed assailants attacked the Oko Divisional Police Headquarters and opened fire indiscriminately under the Ekwulobia flyover.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the recovery is part of ongoing efforts to track down members of the criminal gang behind the brazen attacks.
“The area remains calm and under control, with surveillance and intelligence operations ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects connected to the attacks,” Ikenga stated.
He further commended residents of Oko, Ekwulobia, and surrounding communities for their cooperation, noting that local support has been vital to the success of the ongoing investigation and containment efforts.
The Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security agency, assuring that every piece of information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
The latest recovery adds to the string of counter-offensives being carried out by security forces to combat rising threats from armed criminal elements in parts of Anambra State.
