The Anambra State Police Command has recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle hidden on the rooftop of a residential apartment under renovation in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, following a tip-off from vigilant community members.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the discovery was made on Friday, July 11, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m. at Ihuowele Ngo Village. The operation was made possible by the timely and actionable intelligence provided by residents of the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the weapon may be linked to a man identified simply as *Samson*, a suspected notorious figure and former occupant of the apartment. Police reports indicate that Samson has not been seen in the area since June 2024, and efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend him.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the proactive role of the community in aiding the discovery and emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the public and law enforcement. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
