The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale manhunt for the armed assailants responsible for the abduction and murder of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet.
Onyekere was attacked on the evening of Saturday, July 27, 2025, at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka. He was reportedly shot in the leg before being abducted by the gunmen. His lifeless body was later discovered, triggering widespread grief and outrage across the community.
In a significant breakthrough, joint security operatives comprising the Police and the Anambra Vigilante Group recovered the victim’s navy blue Toyota Corolla, which the suspects had used to flee the crime scene. The vehicle was found along the Ukwulu/Igbariam road.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers had carefully trailed Onyekere before launching their assault.
Condemning the brutal killing, CP Orutugu assured the public that all tactical and intelligence units have been mobilized to track down and apprehend the perpetrators. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim’s family and maintaining security across the state.
“We owe it to the family, the people of Anambra, and the memory of the deceased to ensure that those behind this cowardly act face the full weight of the law,” the CP stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that updates on the investigation will be provided as developments unfold.
