Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested three men in connection with separate cases of defilement of minors in different parts of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were made by officers attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, following reports from Eziowelle, Oba, and Ogidi Divisions.
In the first case, police operatives from Oba Division on August 19, 2025, apprehended one Ihechiluru Okorie for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl. The suspect, who runs a barbing salon, reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he forcefully had carnal knowledge of the victim when she came to his shop to cut her hair.
Similarly, on August 13, 2025, operatives from Eziowelle Division arrested 28-year-old Chidubem Udem for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl at her grandmother’s house. Investigations revealed that the suspect took advantage of the child when he visited the family. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where medical examination confirmed a case of defilement.
In another incident, on August 28, 2025, 30-year-old Kalu Ilo was arrested by Ogidi Police operatives for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter in Nkpor. The girl, said to be mentally challenged, was reportedly assaulted when the suspect gained access to her home.
The police confirmed that all three suspects are in custody and will be charged to court on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the incidents in strong terms, describing them as unacceptable and inhumane. He assured that the Command would ensure diligent prosecution to secure justice for the victims.
The Commissioner further urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and to promptly report any incidents of sexual or gender-based violence to the nearest police station. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting the rights of children and vulnerable persons across the state.
