The Anambra Democratic Movement (ADM) has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to promote Engr. Kenneth Emekayi, the current Senior Special Adviser on Community Security, to the position of Commissioner for Homeland Security in Anambra State.
The call was made over the weekend in Nnewi by ADM President, High Chief Uzoma Anunihu, following the group’s expanded quarterly general meeting. Chief Anunihu described Emekayi as a “fearless, results-driven security strategist” who has made remarkable strides in restoring security across several troubled local government areas in the state.
ADM noted that the position became vacant following the exit of the immediate past Commissioner, Hon. Chikodili Anere. The group believes Emekayi’s promotion would not only fill the vacuum but also motivate continued efforts in stabilizing security in the state.
“When Engr. Emekayi assumed office, over 16 local government areas were under the control of criminals and armed groups. But his swift and strategic actions have drastically reduced insecurity,” Chief Anunihu stated.
According to ADM, Emekayi swiftly reorganized the Anambra Vigilante Group and led the AGUNAECHEMBA security initiative into aggressive operations targeting criminal hideouts and camps. The operations led to the arrest of several armed elements who resisted calls to surrender their weapons under the ongoing state amnesty programme.
ADM credited the Emekayi-led efforts with significant gains in reclaiming peace across the state, with remaining security challenges now limited to flashpoints such as Ogbaru, Ogbunka, Umunze, and parts of Orumba North, Orumba South, and Ihiala Local Government Areas. However, the group emphasized that sustained joint operations are ongoing in those areas with positive results expected soon.
The ADM appealed to Governor Soludo to exercise political will in recognizing and rewarding Emekayi’s commitment and achievements by appointing him as Commissioner.
“Such a promotion will not only strengthen the state’s security architecture but also inspire further dedication from other security personnel,” Chief Anunihu added.
The group reiterated its support for the Governor’s administration and ongoing efforts to rid Anambra State of insecurity and criminal elements.
