6 Brigade Holds Peace Dialogue To Strengthen Coexistence In Taraba Communities

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has hosted a peace dialogue with representatives of the Fulani, Bandawa, Munga Lelau, and Munga Dosso communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, at the Karim Lamido LGA Secretariat, brought together community elders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders in a renewed bid to promote peaceful coexistence, safeguard lives, and protect property.

The engagement followed the breach of a peace accord earlier signed on 30 June 2025. In response, Brigadier General Uwa re-engaged the communities to restore trust, address grievances, and prevent further violence.

In his remarks, the Brigade Commander stressed the importance of unity, dialogue, and collective responsibility in addressing security challenges. He urged residents to set aside their differences and embrace constructive engagement, warning against taking the law into their own hands. “We must all embrace peace and work together to restore harmony in our communities,” he said.

Chairman of Karim Lamido LGA, Hon. Birtrus Dan Jos, commended the Brigade Commander’s commitment to peacebuilding, noting his physical presence despite difficult road conditions from Jalingo. He described the visit as evidence of the Nigerian Army’s dedication to community welfare and stability.

The dialogue ended with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to the original peace accord. Resolutions reached included sustaining continuous dialogue, supporting peacebuilding initiatives, avoiding harbouring criminals, and cooperating with security agencies.

Brigadier General Uwa reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to maintain security, foster mutual understanding, and promote lasting peace in Taraba State.
