ZONE 2 POLICE HEADQUARTERS: In Response To Media Reports On Cults, Internet Fraud

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, allegedly claimed that some of his police officers were involved in internet fraud (also known as Yahoo Yahoo) and cultism. However, Zone 2 Police Headquarters (Lagos and Ogun States) officials have refuted this claim.

According to the Zonal Spokesperson, Hauwa Idris-Adamu, a Superintendent of Police said “it becomes very imperative for the Command to clear the air and set the records straight on the news being circulated by some media that the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, admitted that some of his men are into internet fraud otherwise known as Yahoo-Yahoo and Cultism.

“The Command under the supervision of the Assistant Inspector General of Police wishes to inform the public that the news was inaccurately published as the AIG never had any conversation with any journalist during his visit to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police and that the AIG was quoted out of context,” reads a statement from the command.

According to the statement, “the AIG only charged officers and men of the Ogun State Command to not get involved in such practices (i.e. Cultism, internet Fraud, and other social vices), be more dedicated to duty, respect the rule of law, and be civil to members of the public while they eschew all forms of corrupt practices. No such statement was made in the in-house lecture he had with officers and men of the Ogun State Command on the 28th July 2022.

“As a result, the general public is asked to ignore the false information spreading because neither the AIG nor the Nigerian Police have ever released a statement like that.

“Contrary to what is being reported, the police issued a warning that anyone caught engaging in such behavior would be subject to the full force of the law.
