Zone 2 Police Foil Kidnapping Plot, Rescue Victims, Arrest 3 Suspects

Under the astute leadership of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olatoye A. Durosinmi, LLB, BL, LLM, the Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos has made a significant breakthrough, apprehending a kidnapping ring and freeing two victims in a daring operation.

The suspects are as follows: Kwasi Samuel, Male 64 years old, Unnachukwu Monday, Male, 24 years old, and Freeman Ekpebo, Male 23 years old.

The operation unfolded on March 26, 2024, at around 06:00hrs, when a distress call from a resident of Millionaire Estate, Oniru, Lagos, reported the abduction of her 10-year-old son, maid, and driver, Mr. Samuel Kwasi, from the Ikoyi area of Lagos. The kidnappers demanded a staggering ransom of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150,000,000:00k).

Responding swiftly to the call, a team of detectives led by CSP Tijjani Taofiq, Officer-in-Charge of the Zonal Monitoring Unit, employed advanced tracking techniques and intelligence gathering. Their efforts led them to the kidnappers’ hideout in the Ayetoro area of Ijanikin, Badagry road, Lagos.

On March 28, 2024, at approximately 3:40 PM, officers raided the hideout at Cozzy Hotel, Ijaniki, where they apprehended suspect Nnachukwu Monday and safely rescued the victims unharmed.

In a well-coordinated operation, Mr. Samuel Kwasi and Freeman Ekpebo were arrested at Sun Era Hotel, Ijanikin, where they were allegedly awaiting the ransom. Investigations revealed Mr. Kwasi as the principal suspect and mastermind behind the kidnapping.

Mr. Kwasi, aged 64, confessed to disabling the car’s tracking device before the abduction. Additionally, a Car’s Tracking Device and a Knife were recovered from the hotel room at Sun Era Hotel, Ijanikin, where the suspects were found.

AIG Olatoye Durosinmi commended the police officers for their prompt response and thanked the community for their cooperation and vigilance. He urged parents and guardians to exercise caution and conduct thorough background checks when hiring domestic staff.

The Zone 2 Police Command reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Lagos and Ogun States.
