The Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force has initiated the trial of three officers whose actions were captured in a viral video posted by a user with the handle @EmmCee_RNB on January 25, 2024. In the video, three individuals claiming to be Police Officers attached to Zone 2 Command were seen demanding a tinted permit from a motorist.
The identified officers involved in the incident are ASP KENEDY EREOAH, INSPR ADEMILUYI ADEKUNLE, and INSPR AYO GBENGA, all attached to the Zonal Intelligence Bureau at Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos. Contrary to initial claims that they were kidnappers, the investigation revealed that they were on official duty but exhibited unprofessional behavior. The officers have been defaulted and are presently undergoing trial for flouting the Inspector General of Police’s directive on tinted permits.
In a bid to maintain transparency, the Zone 2 Command is requesting the presence of the affected member of the public, who was involved in the incident, to contact the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer at GSM No. 08100025614 for further action.
SP. AYUBA T. UMMA, anipr, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, signed the statement, assuring residents of Lagos and Ogun States of the safety and security of lives and properties.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) called for calm and reiterated the commitment of the Zone 2 Command to uphold professionalism in policing while ensuring the lawful activities of the public are protected.
