The Zone 2 Police Command has arrested four members of a notorious criminal syndicate allegedly involved in a series of armed robbery, kidnapping, and cult-related activities terrorizing communities in Ogun State.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, May 25, 2025, by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ayuba T. Umma, intelligence reports had earlier revealed that a group of suspected AIYE cultists had been robbing motorcycle riders and hijacking cement-laden trucks along Onigbedu in Ewekoro Local Government Area.
Following the tip-off, operatives of the Zonal Dragon Squad 2 launched an investigation and, on May 8, 2025, apprehended three suspects—Damilare Babatunde (30), also known as Drey; Fatai Ishola (25); and Segun Hammed (28), also known as Opa—at Sabo Hausa Market, Eleweran, Abeokuta, while they were reportedly planning a robbery operation.
Their arrest subsequently led to the capture of a fourth suspect, Abiodun Olanrewaju (45), who was found hiding in Onigbedu. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to hijacking several trucks transporting cement in the area.
In a shocking revelation, the gang also admitted to kidnapping two Chinese nationals—Liang Ding Jia and Chen Wen Guang—on August 11, 2024. The police said a ransom of N30 million was paid for their release.
One of the suspects, Segun Hammed, also confessed to participating in a robbery attack in Obada Oko on January 27, 2025, during which he allegedly raped a 62-year-old woman in front of her children. The victim, while narrating her ordeal, said the suspect had initially attempted to assault her daughter, but when she pleaded with him, he turned on her and carried out the act.
Items recovered from the suspects include one locally made pistol, one Beretta pistol with 13 live ammunition, three live cartridges, two unregistered Bajaj motorcycles, N300,000 cash, an iPhone 7+, a Tecno mobile phone, and various ATM cards. Some items, including phones and cash, are believed to be with another suspect currently at large.
The police say investigations are ongoing, with intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover other stolen items. The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
