The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in cultism and kidnapping activities in Nnewi, as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.
The suspects, identified as Ani Obinna (21) and Okwudili Ezike (43), were apprehended on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, by police operatives attached to the Otolo-Nnewi Division following a hot pursuit based on credible intelligence. During the operation, the police recovered one foreign-made pistol, three live ammunition, and a ladies’ motorcycle believed to have been stolen.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were arrested at a criminal hideout in Nnewi and have confessed to being members of a secret cult and a kidnapping syndicate. He noted that they are currently providing useful information to aid in the dismantling of their criminal network and the apprehension of additional gang members.
“The Command has intensified patrol in the area and remains committed to fostering a secure environment where work and businesses can thrive,” SP Ikenga stated, adding that the situation is under close monitoring and further updates will be communicated in due course.
The operation underscores the Command’s resolve to ensure public safety and rid Anambra of criminal elements, especially on a day dedicated to celebrating the contributions of the working class.
