WNC Decorates 37 Officers With New Ranks, FOC Urges Commitment


The Western Naval Command (WNC) conducted the decoration ceremony of 37 newly promoted officers on December 24, 2024, at the WNC Officers’ Mess. The event celebrated the elevation of officers across various ranks, including two Captains promoted to Commodore, 13 Commanders elevated to Captain, and 22 Lieutenant Commanders promoted to Commander.

In his address, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) West, Rear Admiral MG Oamen, urged the promoted officers to demonstrate gratitude to the Nigerian Navy (NN) and the nation by redoubling their efforts in maintaining discipline and supporting government initiatives to ensure security and foster economic prosperity.

Prominent among the beneficiaries of the promotion were Commodore MI Raji, Executive Officer of NNS BEECROFT, and Commodore U Saidu, Executive Officer of the Naval Air Base, alongside other senior officers who were commended for their outstanding contributions to the service.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) West, Rear Admiral A Baba-Inna, along with Commanders, Commandants, and Commanding Officers of units and ships under the WNC. Retired senior officers, family members, and well-wishers of the newly promoted officers also graced the occasion, making it a memorable event for the naval community.

The ceremony not only marked a significant milestone in the careers of the decorated officers but also reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to rewarding excellence and fostering professionalism within its ranks.
