Wema Bank, Nigeria’s innovative banking pioneer and creator of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, celebrated the Grand Finale of its 5 for 5 Promo Season 3 on May 31, 2024, at its Head Office in Lagos. The event saw 124 customers rewarded, bringing the total number of winners for the season to 1,200.

Launched in 2019, the Wema Bank 5 for 5 Promo aims to reward active and loyal customers, fostering engagement with the bank’s products and services. The promo, which ensures transparency through monthly raffle draws supervised by top regulatory bodies, has gained significant traction over its three seasons. The first two seasons distributed N63.3 million to 1,177 winners, setting a high standard for the recently concluded Season 3.

Season 3 commenced in July 2023 with a N90 million cash prize pool available to both Naira and Domiciliary account holders. The promo spanned ten months, touring cities including Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Uyo, UNILAG, Akure, Enugu, Benin, and Osogbo, culminating in the Grand Finale in Lagos. Each monthly draw distributed N9 million, except for the Akure draw, which disbursed N8 million, adding the remaining N1 million to the Grand Finale prize.

The Grand Finale saw N10 million in prizes awarded to winners: two received N1 million each, 12 Domiciliary Account holders won N250,000 each, 30 winners took home N100,000 each, and 80 winners were awarded N25,000 each. Representatives from the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), the Lagos State Lotteries Board, and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) attended the event, ensuring its legitimacy.

Tunde Mabawonku, Wema Bank’s Executive Director of Retail and Digital Business, highlighted the bank’s dedication to customer appreciation and rewarding banking experiences. “What you see today as an instrument of positive impact and transformation began with a vision set in 2019,” he said. Mabawonku praised the customers’ loyalty, which has supported Wema Bank’s innovations like ALAT and SARA by Wema. He emphasized the success of the 5 for 5 Promo in delivering exceptional rewards and thanked all contributors to its success.

Ayodele Olojede, Wema Bank’s Divisional Head of Retail and SME, expressed pride in the promo’s impact, noting the diverse demographics of the winners, including NYSC Corps Members, business owners, corporate employees, parents, and students from across Nigeria. “Being here today at the Grand Finale leaves a bittersweet feeling. While the Grand Finale attests to the impactful journey we have traversed through the past 10 months, it also marks the end of the season,” she said, appreciating the transformative impact and customer trust in Wema Bank.

The 5 for 5 Promo has significantly impacted the lives of hundreds of Nigerians, demonstrating inclusivity and diversity. Although Season 3 has concluded, Wema Bank continues to offer various rewards through its Deals & Discounts feature on the ALAT App, social media platforms, and other initiatives, ensuring ongoing value for its customers.
