Union Bank of Nigeria, in a move to underscore its commitment to an inclusive society, free from biases and discrimination, celebrated International Women’s Day with a special event under the global theme #InspireInclusion.

Named “Ability Over Gender,” the event served as a platform for Union Bank to showcase its dedication to gender inclusivity and the promotion of female excellence across various fields. The Bank’s new CEO, Yetunde B. Oni, delivered a keynote address, reiterating the institution’s commitment to championing women’s advancement and the inclusion of underrepresented communities in traditionally exclusive spaces.

A panel session followed, moderated by Chioma Nwokike, Head of Retail Segments and αlpher. The panel featured prominent figures such as Chinasa Collins-Ogbuo from EFInA (Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access), Dr. Zahra Modibbo, Managing Partner at Débbo Africa, Olajumoke Daramola from Women’s World Banking, and Esohe Adetola, Learning Solutions Manager at Shell Nigeria. The discussion focused on changing the narrative around inclusion and creating an environment for women to thrive and excel under the theme ‘Because She Can.’

Speaking at the sidelines of the event, Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand & Marketing Officer at Union Bank, expressed the institution’s core values, stating, “Union Bank stands for equal representation and acknowledgment of the incredible skills and ability women bring to the table, irrespective of the industry or enterprise they engage in.”

The message behind this year’s theme calls for a fair, equitable world where individuals are assessed based on their capability rather than their biological makeup.
