United Bank for Africa (UBA), through its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, the UBA Foundation, officially marked the beginning of the festive season with its annual Garden Light-Up ceremony on Monday. The event, held at the bank’s head office in Lagos, showcased a dazzling display of lights, decorations, and fireworks, bringing together staff, customers, and well-wishers in an atmosphere of joy and unity.

The Garden Light-Up ceremony, an enduring tradition, underscores UBA’s commitment to spreading cheer and fostering a sense of community during the holiday season. The event featured vibrant Christmas decorations, lively music, and performances, reflecting the spirit of giving and celebration that defines the festive period.

Speaking at the ceremony, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted the significance of the event in creating memorable experiences and expressed gratitude to the bank’s staff, customers, and stakeholders for their contributions throughout the year.

“As we approach Christmas, a time of love and giving, we remember the spirit of community that unites us all,” Alawuba remarked. “This ceremony symbolizes hope for the coming year and the goodness it will bring into our lives. I am grateful to the Board of UBA, led by our Chairman, Tony Elumelu, and to the entire executive management team for their dedication and contributions.”

Alawuba also emphasized the importance of kindness and community, encouraging attendees to extend the spirit of giving to those around them. “This event reflects our belief in family, unity, and giving back to the communities we serve. As we celebrate 75 years of UBA, we look forward to an even brighter future. Let us spread light and kindness wherever we go,” he added.

The ceremony was marked by Christmas carols performed by the UBA Customer Fulfilment Centre choir, adding a melodic touch to the festive atmosphere. Attendees also enjoyed a guided tour of the beautifully lit UBA Foundation gardens on the Lagos Marina, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.
