UBA Takes Lead As Official Sponsor At 2024 ECOWAS Mining Forum In Cotonou, Benin

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Africa’s Global Bank, has been unveiled as the official sponsor for the 4th edition of the ECOWAS Mining and Petroleum Forum (ECOMOF 2024), set to be held at the Palais des Congrès in Cotonou, Benin from February 22 to February 24, 2024.

This prominent regional event is anticipated to gather influential players and stakeholders from the mining and petroleum sectors within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). As the financial institution of choice with a robust presence in 20 African countries and active involvement in major continental development projects, UBA stands out as the preferred partner for the event, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to fostering the growth of the mining and petroleum industry not only in the sub-region but across the entire African continent.

The Chairman of UBA Group, Tony Elumelu, a notable figure with extensive interests in energy and power, will deliver the keynote address during the opening ceremony. His speech, themed “Geo-extractive Resources and Technologies: pooling strategies for Value Creation in West Africa,” is expected to emphasize UBA’s increasing efforts to support and develop the African continent through strategic investments in the critical sectors of mining and petroleum.

Under the distinguished leadership of His Excellency Patrice Talon, President of the Republic of Benin, and His Excellency Mr. Bola Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and current President of ECOWAS, the UBA Group aims to reaffirm its commitment to supporting economic and social development across the continent at the forum.

ECOMOF 2024 focuses on the transformation of the mining and oil sectors into economic pillars by crafting attractive policies for investors, crucial for their substantial contribution to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of ECOWAS member states.

The Transnational Corporation Group (Transcorp Plc), a diversified conglomerate with strategic investments in various sectors, including power and energy, will actively participate in the forum alongside UBA Group.

Key officials from UBA Group and Transcorp Plc, such as Abiola Bawuah, CEO UBA Africa; Ebele Ogbue, UBA’s Group Head, Corporate and Energy Bank; and Owen Omogiafo, President/CEO, Transcorp Group, are set to engage in discussions and panels during the event, which is expected to attract over 2,000 participants from diverse sectors.
