UBA Strengthens Commitment To SME Growth With Technology and Innovative SME Card At Lagos Trade Fair

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has underscored its dedication to advancing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across Africa by investing in advanced technology and launching the UBA SME Card. This announcement was made at the 38th Lagos International Trade Fair at Tafawa Balewa Square, where the bank reiterated its aim to empower African businesses and drive economic growth.

Shamsideen Fashola, UBA’s Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking, spoke on UBA’s sustained investment in digital solutions designed to enhance customer experience and streamline business operations. “Our investment in cutting-edge technology is yielding tangible results, proving essential in optimizing efficiency and delivering superior customer experiences,” Fashola noted. He emphasized that the bank’s ongoing commitment is transforming business outcomes and supporting SMEs at every phase of their growth.

A key highlight at the fair was the introduction of the UBA SME Card, a custom-designed financial solution crafted to empower business owners with simplified financing, efficient expense management, and exclusive benefits tailored for operational ease. Fashola added, “With the UBA SME Card, we’re equipping entrepreneurs with essential tools to succeed in today’s competitive market.”

Since 2019, UBA has been a headline sponsor of the Lagos International Trade Fair, the largest trade show in sub-Saharan Africa, hosting over 1,600 companies and fostering significant business networking and trade opportunities. UBA’s presence, which spans over 20 African countries, reflects its commitment to supporting intra-African trade, bolstered by partnerships with entities like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Afreximbank.

Babatunde Ajayi, Head of SME Banking at UBA, highlighted the bank’s approach to SME support, emphasizing the importance of capital access and targeted financing solutions for women and youth entrepreneurs. “Our participation in the trade fair extends beyond acquiring new customers,” Ajayi remarked. “We aim to bring value, showcase our partnerships, and introduce innovative products such as PAPPS, enabling seamless transactions for our customers across Africa.”
