Two Arrested in Connection With Murder Of 80-Year-Old Woman In Ihiala, Police Recover Stolen Motorcycle

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, in Ihiala. The suspects, Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, both males from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala, were apprehended following an investigation that began on April 2, 2025.

The victim was discovered murdered under horrific circumstances, with her legs and mouth bound before her death. In addition to the gruesome murder, a black CG motorcycle, believed to have been stolen from the deceased, was recovered by the police.

The investigation gained traction on April 5, 2025, when a Joint Security Team on patrol in Ihiala arrested Chidiebere Igboanugo after the victim’s son recognized the stolen motorcycle being driven by the suspect near Ezego Junction in Ihiala. Upon further questioning, Igboanugo implicated Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, leading to his arrest on April 7, 2025.

The police investigation has also uncovered the identities of two additional suspects, Alla and Emeka, who are believed to be involved in the crime. These individuals are currently at large, and efforts to apprehend them are underway.

The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation. The police are intensifying efforts to capture the remaining suspects and ensure that justice is served.

Both suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is completed.
