The president of Treepz, a bus hailing company, Mr Johnny Enagwolor has said that adhering to government regulations as it affects the public transportation space has been the reason for their success as a bus hailing company.
Enagwolor said this during the launch of their new Business Trip model and website which held at Treepz Office, Opeyemi Bamidele St., Lekki 1, Lagos State.
Treepz is a mobility platform that leverages technology to make transportation predictable, structured and accessible to the public.
The president said that the company was launched in 2019 with only 17 buses and that it had grown to over 2,000 vehicles with over 2 million trips made across the country and continent.
According to him, Treepz is currently operating in 16 states across the federation and two African countries: Ghana and Uganda, as well as working to expand in the near future.
“When we started this business, there was no policy for bus hailing so, we had to liaise with the Lagos State government to ensure that this was put in place.
“This made us become the first bus hailing company to acquire a licence in Lagos State.
“Adhering to government policies is what is helping us in the drive of our success story and any market we go to, we also deploy the same template,” Enagwolor said.
He said that when they launched in Ghana, the Ghanian Minister of Transportation was there to launch the service in Ghana so also in Uganda, where the president sent a representative that launched the service.
“This is done just to adhere to government rules and polices as it affects road users which has helped us expand in all market.
“Before we enter any market, we must tidy up the regulatory policies in that space,” the president said.
Enagwolor said that they had over 2000 vehicles on the platform and that they had opened up the business model to empower people whereby they can actually bring their vehicles onboard and get a good percentage from the investment.
“We started with only eight personnel in 2019 but have grown our staff strength to 80 personnel and one good thing is that we have been able to create jobs and empower people,” he said.
Enagwolor added that Treepz won the Award of the Best Industrial Tech Company in Africa and had also been nominated for the sixth edition of the ABS African Award 2020.
