The Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade John, has pledged the ministry’s collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in promoting Nigeria’s tourism destinations and diverse cultural heritage. During a meeting with NATOP’s President, Mrs. Bolaji Mustapha, and her executive members in Abuja on Thursday, the minister expressed her excitement over the association’s commitment to enhancing the visibility of Nigeria’s rich tourism offerings.
Mrs. Ade John emphasized the importance of showcasing the country’s vast landscape, hospitality, festivals, and cultural heritage both to Nigerians and the world. “We shall partner together, and I do assure you of my ministry’s support and encouragement,” the minister stated. She further called for NATOP’s involvement in reviewing the national tourism policy, promising to include the association in all future discussions and developments related to tourism.
The minister acknowledged the financial challenges facing the ministry, particularly in relation to its participation in this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) in London. However, she assured NATOP that with the next budgetary releases, Nigeria would make significant strides in global tourism promotion. “We are constrained financially for now, but by next year’s budget, we will take giant steps to showcase Nigeria’s tourism offerings to the world,” Mrs. Ade John affirmed.
Mrs. Mustapha, in her address, outlined NATOP’s short- and long-term plans, including efforts to market Nigeria’s cultural heritage, ecological tourism, festivals, and hospitality industries. She emphasized the association’s intention to participate in the WTM and requested the ministry’s support in positioning Nigeria as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
“Our mission is to promote Nigeria’s tourism assets and engage in projects that will galvanize states, local authorities, and the Nigerian people to prioritize culture and tourism. We believe Nigeria’s tourism economy is crucial for job creation and empowerment,” Mrs. Mustapha said.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to working together to boost the country’s global tourism ranking and bring Nigeria’s tourism treasures to the forefront.
