On 5th July 2024, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, received a customized generator and a bus on behalf of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) from the Chairman of the Trade Modernization Project (TMP), Saleh Ahmadu.

The handover ceremony took place at the Project Management Office within the Nigeria Customs Service Management Quarters in Abuja.

CGC Adeniyi expressed his gratitude to TMP for their generous donation. “On behalf of all officers and men, I appreciate this gesture that TMP has done for us through the presentation of the 250KVA generator and the 13-seater 2024 Toyota Hiace bus,” he said.

Adeniyi emphasized the importance of TMP’s contributions towards the service’s modernization efforts. He remarked, “We know that computers alone will not work by themselves; they will not effect the desired modernisation that we need. It will require human input, and the working environment of these elements is very important as well as those tools. So, we therefore appreciate these efforts you put in place to help us enhance the working environment and also improve the welfare of these officers.”

Furthermore, he praised the Trade Modernization Project for being a reliable partner in the modernization drive. He assured that the donated equipment would be put to good use to enhance NCS operations.

Adeniyi also encouraged officers, particularly those from the rank of Assistant Comptroller and Deputy Comptroller, who are undergoing special training by TMP, to be attentive and acquire the necessary knowledge to fulfill their duties and responsibilities effectively.

Mr. Saleh Ahmadu, the Chairman of TMP, explained that the bus was intended to facilitate the movement of personnel between the headquarters and the TMP office, while the generator would ensure a constant power supply to the management quarters of the NCS. He acknowledged the CG for his continuous support and collaboration.

This donation marks a significant step in the ongoing partnership between the NCS and TMP, aimed at driving forward the modernization and efficiency of customs operations in Nigeria.
