President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) for its significant contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, innovation, and industrialization.
In a nationwide broadcast to mark the second-year anniversary of his administration on May 29, 2025, President Tinubu gave special recognition to NASENI, praising the agency’s transformation under the leadership of its Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu.
The President hailed NASENI’s high-impact projects and digital transformation, describing the agency as a model for other public institutions. “Nowhere is placing young Nigerians at the heart of national development more evident than at NASENI,” Tinubu said. “The current management is making giant strides through bold initiatives and a digital-first approach.”
He highlighted several landmark initiatives driven by NASENI, including Innovate Naija, Irrigate Nigeria, the Asset Restoration Programme, and the Renewable Energy and Innovation Park in Gora. These, he noted, are steering Nigeria toward inclusive industrialization and economic resilience.
According to Tinubu, NASENI is also playing a central role in youth-focused development, with programmes such as the **NASCAV** initiative for training female drone engineers and efforts in assembling electric vehicles and reviving idle national assets. “These initiatives are creating jobs, restoring dignity to work, and opening a future of possibilities for our youths,” he said.
On food security, the President pointed to NASENI’s **Irrigate Nigeria Project** as a key contributor to the Renewed Hope Agenda, deploying solar-powered irrigation pumps to boost mechanized farming, increase local food production, and stabilize food prices.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the agency’s efforts in establishing industrial infrastructure, including factories for urea, coal, and lithium processing, as well as eco-friendly cookstove production lines, drone assembly plants, and nationwide Skill Acquisition Centres.
As the only purpose-built intervention agency under the Presidency with a mandate to foster home-grown industrialization through science and engineering, NASENI has become a driving force behind the government’s vision of a modern, innovative, and inclusive Nigeria.
