Comptroller Dera Nnadi, mni, (Ikuku Ndu Ndigbo Gburugburu 1) of the Tin-Can Island Port Command, has been celebrated for his exceptional leadership and transformative contributions at the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Award Night held on November 29, 2024, in Abuja.
Nnadi received two prestigious awards: the CGC’s Special Award for Workplace Transformation and the Award for Distinctive Performance and Commitment to the Ideals and Vision of the Nigeria Customs Service. Presented by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the accolades recognized the command’s achievements in trade facilitation, innovation, and administrative transformation under Nnadi’s leadership.
During his tenure, the Tin-Can Island Port Command recorded significant milestones, including generating ₦1.2 trillion in revenue as of November 2024. Nnadi also spearheaded the remodeling of the command’s administrative building, which had stood for over 40 years, reflecting a commitment to workplace improvement and operational efficiency.
In his acceptance remarks, Comptroller Nnadi dedicated the awards to the officers and men of the command, attributing the success to their teamwork, focus, and dedication. He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs for the support extended to the command and the honor bestowed upon him.
“The awards are a call for increased commitment and a challenge to sustain and enhance the pace of work at the Tin-Can Island Port Command,” Nnadi stated. He also urged business owners operating at the port to embrace the trade modernization initiatives championed by the Comptroller General, including the adoption of technology and paperless port procedures to facilitate seamless trade.
The Comptroller further encouraged his officers to view the awards as motivation to redouble their efforts, emphasizing the importance of maintaining excellence in service delivery and revenue generation.
