Tin-Can Customs Strengthens Security Collaboration With Sister Agencies

The Customs Area Controller of Tin-Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has reaffirmed the need for strengthened collaboration among security agencies to enhance national security. He emphasized that safeguarding the country requires collective efforts beyond revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations.

Onyeka made this statement while receiving the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry, Navy Captain Omotayo Busuyi Oyeleye, in his office. He stressed that reinforcing ties among security agencies is crucial in preventing criminal activities at the seaports, as such actions pose serious threats to national development.

Commending the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in ensuring maritime security and tackling sea robberies, Onyeka acknowledged their role in securing Nigeria’s waterways.

In response, Navy Captain Oyeleye praised the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its consistent support in joint patrol operations, noting that Customs’ contributions have been instrumental in the success of collaborative security efforts.

In a related development, Comptroller Onyeka paid a familiarization visit to the Controllers of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS) at the PTML and Tin-Can Island Commands. During the visit at the Quarantine office in Tin-Can, he assured the agency of continued cooperation and pledged to integrate the Quarantine Service into the command’s operations for enhanced synergy.

The Tin-Can Island Port Command remains committed to fostering inter-agency partnerships to ensure a secure and efficient port environment.
