The CLEEN Foundation, in collaboration with the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF), has announced the third edition of the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Impact and Legacy Lecture Series, scheduled to take place in Lagos on April 3, 2025.
Themed “The Personal is Political: Lessons from the Life of Innocent Chukwuma,” this year’s lecture will be delivered by Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, a distinguished feminist activist, gender and development specialist, writer, and former First Lady of Ekiti State. The event aims to explore the interconnectedness of personal experiences with broader social and political structures, drawing from the life and legacy of the late Innocent Chukwuma.
Chukwuma, a tireless advocate for social justice, human rights, justice sector reforms, and good governance, left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s civic landscape. The annual lecture series was established to honor his contributions by fostering discussions that inspire societal change and policy development.
Speaking on this year’s theme, organizers emphasized the continued relevance of the phrase “the personal is political,” a concept that gained prominence during the second wave of feminism in the 1960s. Adeleye-Fayemi’s address is expected to provide valuable insights into how Chukwuma’s personal experiences shaped his activism and ideological convictions.
Participants, both in-person and virtual, can anticipate thought-provoking discussions, personal narratives, and actionable insights that highlight the power of individual efforts in driving societal progress. The event is open to all who wish to honor Chukwuma’s legacy and explore ways to effect meaningful change.
