Tensions Mount In Nteje Over Alleged Manipulations In Igweship Process

Concerns over the peace and unity of Nteje have intensified following allegations of manipulation and misinformation regarding the Igweship process. Dr. Emmanuel Nweke Okafor, a prominent voice in the community, has called on Nteje citizens to unite against what he describes as a plot to destabilize the town’s harmony.

Dr. Okafor disclosed that a letter from the office of the Commissioner for Chieftaincy in Anambra State, dated December 9, 2024, and addressed to the President-General (PG) of the Nteje Development Union (NDU), was withheld from the community. Despite its importance, the letter was neither read at the NDU General Meeting on December 26, 2024, nor shared in the NDU’s official WhatsApp forum.

“These omissions raise serious questions about transparency and accountability,” Dr. Okafor stated. “Who is deceiving whom? Who is trying to outsmart the rest of us?”

Dr. Okafor firmly denied claims that the Ifite Nteje clan had collectively agreed to support Ikenga Nteje for the Igweship. “If anyone has informed the state government otherwise, they must correct the record immediately,” he said, urging those spreading false information to cease further harm to the community.

He also emphasized the importance of allowing the court to deliver impartial justice, as the Igweship matter remains under judicial consideration.

The letter further appealed to Nteje citizens to reject any form of manipulation or misinformation, whether from government officials, the NDU, or other quarters. Dr. Okafor reminded the community that Nteje belongs to all its citizens and called for transparency, fairness, and unity in resolving the Igweship dispute.

“It is the rightful turn of Ifite Nteje to produce the next Igwe, and this process should be respected as per our traditional agreements,” he asserted.

To ensure justice and accountability, Dr. Okafor proposed a fundraising effort to hire a high-profile lawyer to address the matter in court. He invited all Nteje citizens to join the effort and contribute through the community’s WhatsApp forum.

“Our strength lies in our collective unity and commitment to fairness and truth. Together, we can liberate Nteje and ensure its future is built on justice and respect,” he said.

Dr. Okafor concluded with a rallying cry for the community to unite against division and uphold Nteje’s peace and progress. He reiterated the importance of protecting the town’s integrity and ensuring that its leadership is achieved through justice and fairness.

As Nteje navigates this critical juncture, the community is urged to prioritize unity, dialogue, and collective action to safeguard its heritage and future.
