The Collective Movement (TCM), a socio-political organization, has called for a strategic partnership with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following recent allegations of violent attacks on the NANS president.
According to TCM’s founder, High Chief Franklin Ekechukwu, the move aims to address pressing issues facing Nigerian students and youth, while also promoting unity and safeguarding student leadership integrity.
Speaking during a virtual meeting held on Saturday, Ekechukwu condemned the reported attacks on the NANS president, which have sparked widespread concern and scrutiny. He described the situation as troubling, noting that it raises serious questions about the safety, stability, and credibility of student representation in the country.
It will be recalled that the NANS president recently accused unnamed individuals—allegedly with links to the presidency but without official political positions—of bribery, torture, and abduction. These claims have fueled heated debates about the challenges confronting student leaders and the need for urgent reforms within NANS.
In response, Ekechukwu said TCM believes a partnership with NANS would help both organizations address shared concerns affecting Nigerian youth.
“By working together, both groups aim to leverage their collective strengths to drive positive change and promote the welfare of students and citizens alike,” he stated.
The TCM founder highlighted key areas of proposed collaboration, including advocacy for student rights, protection of student leaders, education funding, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.
Ekechukwu also emphasized the importance of sustained communication and transparent coordination between TCM and NANS to ensure the success of their initiatives.
“The synergy between TCM and NANS will amplify the voices of Nigerian students and citizens, ensuring the relevant authorities address their concerns,” he said.
He maintained that such a partnership would foster unity and stability within the student movement and help restore confidence in student leadership across the country.
“Our collaborative efforts can create a greater impact in the nation’s polity aimed at driving meaningful change and promoting the welfare of students and citizens,” Ekechukwu concluded.
